30 degrees is a bit hot.

Monday Nov 5th

But we are managing quite nicely.

We have met some very nice people.  Have been invited to the community campfire, to the thanksgiving picnic, and to the Christmas gift exchange.

We bought some golf clubs at the Christian Centre thrift shop, (here at Imperial dam) at the astronomical price of $.50 a piece.  It broke the bank.  Now we have to practice for when we go to the par 3 course.  That should be a barrel of laughs.  Hopefully, no one will be around to get bonked on the head by our stray balls.

Went to buy an 800 watt inverter yesterday.  MJ has it hooked up directly to the batteries.  No more plugging in the lighter receiver.  Now we can watch tv without putting the generator on  The old way, we were taking too much off the battery so we turned the generator on for extra power.  Nice and quiet.

Our air conditioner in the truck has seen better days and it’s too darn hot here to be driving around without a decent cooling system.  Tomorrow, we are going to Yuma to get it fixed.  awwww, I can feel that cool air on my face.

Tuesday Nov 6th

Did get the air fixed.  Don’t know if there is a leak or not.  Put some freeon or whatever they put in there and have to wait and see if it leaks.  Feels way cooler than it did before.

MJ needed shoes, so, 5 stores later, we have shoes.  Then to the dreaded laundry.

Wednesday Nov. 7

Yesterday, our neighbour Don asked us if we wanted to go for a bike ride around the lake.  After hemming and hawing for a while, we said yes.  Actually, I’m the one (Leona) who hemmed and hawed.  Well, what a freaking ride.  Never again in this heat, 28C at the time.  Took us 3 hours.  Spectacular views, but tooooooooo hot.

Here are a few pics.

These palm trees produce dates.  They are planted in rows upon rows, upon rows.  Fields of these trees  for days.  Quite nice to see.  We can see the dates on the trees as the harvest is done in Sept. and we only get here in Oct. bummer.

Met up with our friend Denise

On Friday the 25th, we met up with our friend Denise, her brother Don and his wife Carol in Yuma (at and RV park) and drove to Los Algadonas for the afternoon.  Don and Carol bought a new to them, but used 2002 convertible Ford Mustang, in which we drove in to Algadonas.  What a nice car.  Denise drove her Harley.  On my previous blog I mentioned all the pedlers of doctors, not so, they peddle dentists.  There must be at least 500 dentists in a four block area.  Enjoyed it more this time for some reason, however, did not buy anything.
On the 26th, Saturday, went to the Yuma flea market, but only a few vendors were open.  The official opening is tomorrow, Nov. 1st.
We have moved the trailer so that the sun does not hit the fridge side, as the temp in the fridge went up too high during the day.
Enough for today.

Algadonas, Mexico, here we come.

One of our neighbours, Don, (from Alberta), asked us if we wanted to go to Mexico for a couple hours.  Small town on the border.  We said yessss.  We park on the US side and walk to the Mexican side.  We get bombarded every two feet with someone wanting to sell some junk or go see a doctor.  MJ did get a nice summer jacket and a bottle of Kahlua, $9.00.  Then Don took us on a bit of a tour into Yuma to show us some of the places to grocery shop, laundry, etc.  Had a great day.

We have arrived at Imperial Dam, Ca

I will try to give a synopsis of our trip to this wonderful spot.

First, we left Peace Arch RV park on Oct 14 and arrived here on Oct. 20th.  One week of interesting, however, not always fun times.  We left Surrey in the rain and that rain only got worse as we drove along.  We decided to drive part of the Oregon and Cal coasts as we thought that the I-5 had too many hills and would be very hard on our truck.  Well, on looking back, we would have been better off doing the whole trip on the I-5.

On the 101 (the coast part), we had hurricane force winds (in our opinion) and being right on the water, was coming square at us.  We had to stop several times to let the winds slow down a bit.  Roads are narrow and hilly and not nice to drive.  Our truck and rig are both very dirty and sticky with salt water.

At one point, we decided to cut across and get back on I-5 and the hills were worse than we anticipated, so we turned around and got back on the coast.  We eventually cut over and hit rush hour and an accident on the 6 & 7 lane highway in Passadena.  Took an exit as we saw a Walmart and were told we could not stay overnight.  So got back on the highway and crawled to another Walmart and pleaded with the security guard to let us stay there, which he did.  Word of advice to travellers wanting to use Walmart parking lots in the US.  Most of them will not let you stay.  The truck stops are great and everywhere, but noisy as can be with truckers leaving their engines running, but the worse part is the fumes from all the engines.

On our last day, about 70 miles from Quartzsite, on highway 10, there was another accident and were stopped for 2 hours.  Some ladies needed to use the potty and used our trailer.  They we soooooo grateful.  One of them was ready to go in a little cooler, but of course, did not want to do potty in front of everybody.
